The 2015 meeting is the 13th edition of the IEBS series focused on estuarine biogeochemical processes and covering the wide diversity of estuaries and bays in terms of morphology, geographic position, climate region, and anthropogenic pressure. The objective is to identify, understand and predict roles and responses of estuaries and bays in a context of forecast increasing population pressure on the global coastal zones. Contributions on reference (close-to-natural) and modified systems and approaches to estuary trajectories (“past-present-future”) are welcome. Specific items include, but are not restricted to: sources, behavior and fate of nutrients, organic matter, historical and emerging inorganic/organic contaminants, nanoparticles, etc. One session will be dedicated to new sensors and recent developments for permanent high-resolution monitoring of chemicals in coastal zones.

Tentative topics are:

1) Past, present and future anthropogenic pressure – how do environmental changes affect nutrient and Organic Matter cycles, eutrophication, contaminant fate, coastal ocean acidification and ecosystem functions

2) Physical and chemical factors influencing biogeochemistry and exchanges at estuarine boundaries (sediment-water-air, urban areas, subterranean estuaries)

3) New techniques and technologies for in-situ high-resolution monitoring in estuaries and bays

The Symposium website is now open: IEBS2015

The abstract deadline is 15 February.
The online registration tool will be open from February 15.

All relevant information on the symposium (venue, fees, social events, maps, travel, accommodation, tourist information...) are available on the website via the link 'Symposium Information all-in-one' (file also attached to this message).
