We are currently seeking candidates for an NSERC postdoctoral fellowship / starting as early as summer 2016.  The fellowship willbe for up to 3 years in duration and hosted by the Air Quality Processes Research Section in Toronto, Canada and supervised by Dr. Tom Harner.Work under the fellowship will involve studies that apply passive air samplers to assess the emissions to air, fate, transport, and toxicity associated with organics such as polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) and other persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and emerging chemicals (e.g. PFASs, new flame retardants).

The work will contribute to government priorities in support of the Stockholm Convention on POPs (e.g. work related to the GAPS Network and the Global Monitoring Plan), and domestic priorities related to development of the Athabasca oil sands region, the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP), and the Clean Air Regulatory Agenda (CARA).

Work will involve developing air sampling strategies using active and passive samplers, data analysis and reporting (publications).  Analytical experience with GC-MS (and related instrumentation) as well as experience with air sampling and analysis of semi-volatile compounds is a requirement.

Experience with LC-MS is also an asset. Interested candidates should send a cover letter and CV toTom.Harner@Canada.ca  by February 26, 2016  Tom Harner, Ph.D. P.Eng. (Senior Research Scientist)Air Quality Research DivisionEnvironment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) / Government of CanadaTom.Harner@Canada.ca Tel: 416 739 4837 Division de la recherche en qualité de l'airEnvironnement et Changement climatique Canada (ECCC) / Gouvernement du CanadaTom.Harner@Canada.ca Tél. : 416 739 4837
